Short Blurb of the Speech

Our urban environments are growing increasingly congested, not only with cars and buildings, but many kinds of pollution, some we can see and some we cannot. Plastics are one of these complex materials we’ve artificially introduced into our planetary ecosystem. It is now so ubiquitous as pollution that it is not only found in our rivers and oceans, but now micro-plastics are showing up in the lungs and cells of many species on the planet, including humans. As a human collective and stewards of our planet, we are facing centuries of ecological cleanup. As designers, creators and innovators you will be faced with some of the most challenging opportunities in human history. How can we evolve our relationship with the planet? How can destructive pollutants such as waste plastic be seen as one of the resources through which we can build our future? How can we use design and creativity to bring equilibrium back to our relationship with the natural environment? Now, more than ever young designers have the opportunity to use their talents to build a future where the earth is not just seen as a resource, but as a creative collaborator. One that we can heal together.
